Real Estate Photography: How to Compress for MLS Limits

In real estate, high-quality photography sells homes. You hire professional photographers (or use high-end gear yourself) to capture every detail of a property. But when it's time to upload those stunning shots to the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), you hit a wall.

"Error: File size exceeds limit."

Most MLS platforms have surprisingly strict file size limits - often capping uploads at 5MB, 10MB, or even 2MB per photo. Since a modern DSLR or mirrorless camera produces JPEGs that are easily 15MB to 25MB, you are left with a folder full of photos you can't use.

You need a way to shrink them down without making the living room look dark or the backyard look blurry. And you need to do it for 50 photos at once.

Why You Can't Just "Save As"

Opening 50 photos in Photoshop one by one to "Save for Web" is a nightmare. It eats up hours of your day - time you should be spending showing houses or closing deals.

On the other hand, using low-quality bulk tools can strip away the vibrancy of your photos, making the property look less appealing. In a competitive market, image quality is your edge.

The Solution: Batch Compression

The most efficient workflow for real estate agents is batch compression. This allows you to process an entire listing's worth of photos in a single drag-and-drop action.

Here is how to get your photos ready for MLS in under 60 seconds using imgKonvert.

Step 1: Export or Select Your Photos

Gather all the high-resolution JPGs for your listing into one folder. Don't worry about their current size.

Step 2: Drag and Drop to Bulk Tool

Navigate to our Bulk Image Compressor. You can select all 40+ photos and drag them directly onto the page.

Step 3: Let Your Computer Do the Work

Unlike other tools that make you wait to upload gigabytes of data to a server, imgKonvert processes these images right on your computer. This is much faster and keeps your listing data private until you're ready to publish.

Step 4: Download All

Once processed, you can download a single ZIP file containing all your optimized images. They will be significantly smaller (usually under 1MB or 2MB) but will look virtually identical to the originals on screen.

Tips for MLS Listings

  • Stick to JPG: MLS systems almost exclusively prefer JPG files. If your photographer sent PNGs or TIFFs, use our Converter first.
  • Don't Over-Shrink: You want to be just under the limit. If the limit is 10MB, a 2MB file is perfect. Don't compress it down to 200KB or it will look pixelated on large monitors.
  • Keep a Backup: Always keep your original high-res files in a separate folder for printing flyers or brochures. Only use the compressed versions for the web upload.

Get Listings Live Faster

The faster you get your photos uploaded, the faster your listing goes live. Don't let file size limits become a bottleneck in your workflow.
